Primary Responsibilities
- Safely and effectively manage a 6:1:1 specialized classroom
- Write specific lesson plans that adhere to the Common Core; are chronologically and developmentally appropriate; reflect differentiated instruction techniques; incorporate technology, and are creative
- Effectively incorporate support staff into the classroom program
- Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in accordance with current New York State Education and agency practices, procedures, and policies
- Formulate long-term goals and short-term objectives and implement all goals on each student’s IEP
- Assure that IEP mandates are fulfilled and document progress toward goals on the IEP
- Make appropriate academic recommendations as a result of testing, professional judgment, and student needs
- Engage students in activities that are interesting, meaningful, and individualized to reflect each student’s developmental level
- Help each student to mature academically, socially, and emotionally
- Effectively collaborate with stakeholders involved in child’s education, i.e. Parents, Related Services, Counselors, Aides, and Administrators
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- New York State Certification in appropriate special area
- Valid New York State driver’s license
- Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, compassion, patience, and active listening
- Ability to effectively work with individuals from a diverse array of cultural backgrounds, beliefs, customs, and lifestyles
- Ability to physically restrain if required
