Required Related Experience

Required License/Registration/Certification

Nationally certified Pharmacy Technician by either PTCB (PTCE) or NHA (ExCPT); Registered with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hire.



Physical Requirements

May include standing for greater than 5 hours at a time and possibly walking several miles per day. May require the ability to reach items above shoulder level and be able to lift up to 25 pounds.



Shift

Primarily day shift; Monday through Friday; some weekends and/or holidays may be required per department need.



Job Summary

This position supports the educational mission of the University of Kentucky by working with trainees, students, observers, to help educate the next generation of healthcare workers. Orients and trains new pharmacy technicians for UK HealthCare Chandler Central Pharmacy; Provides direction and training to pharmacy staff to ensure compliance with practice standards and directives. Works closely with members of the Pharmacy Operations leadership team. Organizes the orientation of pharmacy technician trainees including University of Kentucky and UK Healthcare orientations, and the Department of Pharmacy specific orientation. Precepts and/or assists with precepting Pharmacy Technician Students, Pre-professional students, and Pharm D students. Identifies, develops, and implements training materials and resources for training and growth opportunities within the department. Establishes and maintains baseline technical competency documentation for the staff (e.g. competency checklists, training guides, and evaluations), ensures ongoing competency of all technicians and completion of annual competency requirements. Develops a training feedback and quality improvement program to enhance the efficacy of pharmacy technician training. Shall perform other miscellaneous job-related tasks/activities as assigned by the supervising pharmacist.

Preferred Education/Experience

Associate or bachelor’s degree and hospital and/or retail pharmacy technician experience preferred.
