Job Summary

The Chief Dosimetrist is responsible for overseeing, performing, and delegating patient specific medical dosimetry tasks and ensuring adequate dosimetry coverage systemwide. The dosimetry team currently consists of five dosimetrists across the main campus.

The Chief Dosimetrist provides supervision, guidance, and credentialing of all dosimetrists on existing and new procedures, and will keep the team informed of departmental policy changes. As dosimetry as a field changes with artificial intelligence, remote dosimetry, and other disruptive innovations, the Chief Dosimetrist will help guide our Department towards the future of how best to integrate these and other innovations into our clinical workflow.

The Chief Dosimetrist is an important leadership position within the Department of Radiation Oncology, and will work directly with the Chair, Director of Physics, Radiation Therapist Supervisor, and Clinic Management on development and implementation of continued process improvement throughout the system. They will also participate in the department’s quality improvement committee. The Chief Dosimetrist will provide, or delegate a representative to assist in training dosimetry students, physician residents, physics residents, and radiotherapy students who rotate through the main campus.

This position allows for some remote work.
Ideal candidates will have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, problem solving mentality, desire for efficiency and safety, and work well in teams. Additionally, they must possess a good understanding of fundamental concepts in patient setup and simulation, contouring, image fusions, treatment planning, and data transfer between the treatment planning system and the OIS.



Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Working knowledge of basic radiation safety.
Must be able to understand the technical aspects of radiation therapy treatments and communicate these aspects to the radiation oncologist and the radiation therapy technologist.
Must be able to operate and perform quality assurance on the treatment planning computer.

Preferred Education/Experience

Certified Medical Dosimetrist (C.M.D.) licensure and a 2-4 year degree i.e. A.S. or B.S, plus five years of experience in medical dosimetry, previous managerial experience preferred.
