Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Director, Adult Education and Literacy is responsible for developing and managing Adult Education programs and literacy courses offered at multiple sites throughout LSC. This position oversees processes and procedures primarily focused on adult education grant activities, while assisting systemwide improvements to adult learner advancement and completion at LSC. They are responsible for program success through grant compliance, program design, budget development and allocation, and advancement of community-based partnerships. This position leads educational strategies to improve adult basic education and facilitate the successful transition of adults to post-secondary education. Responsible for compliance with state reporting and curriculum mandates. 

This isa temporary, grant-funded position.Continuation of the position from one academic yearto the next is dependent upon continued grantfunding.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.    Supervises and delegates as necessary the daily and long-term activities of staff and instructors involved in advising, program coordination, record keeping, and instruction

2.      Coordinates with various campus administrators to ensure proper program management of system adult learner initiatives and campus activities adhere to all grant or other government compliance requirements

3.    Oversees the development of appropriate courses, scheduling, and curriculum for program, ensuring effective implementation, supervision, quality assurance and evaluation ofprogram.

4.    Uses appropriate data and information to evaluate the effectiveness of the program and makes recommendations forimprovement to LSC administration, advisory committees and local and/or state grant leadership

5.    Supervises the collection, input and timely reporting of student and staff data per grant requirements

6.    Responsible for developing and managing the grant budget of over one million dollars, financial and programmatic activities to meet Federal and State guidelines

7.    Works with other departments to develop proposals and applications for grants and funds to continue ongoing programs and to develop new programs in accordance to identified communityneeds.

8.    Recruits, hires, trains, schedules and evaluates staff and instructors. Designs and implements a professional development plan for all instructional personnel inaccordance to statemandates.

9.    Responsible for the management of student recruitment, advising, assessment, placement, andfollow-up activities

10.  Develops, maintains, and evaluates cooperative relationships with funding agencies, area school districts, community organizations, and local workforce development agencies to implement legislative change and ensure that agreements enhance the resources and services provided to LSC students and faculty and the public

11.  Evaluates trends in learning resources in Adult Education and remains current in all aspects of state-wide AEL program regulations, updates and changes. Plans, implements and continuously evaluates programs, services, and resources in response to findings. Ensures provision of relevant curriculum and supplemental learning objectives

12.  Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:  

·    Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment

·       Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position

·       Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Ability Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of related work experience, or an  equivalent combination of education and experience

·         Experience must include at least 3 years in a management-level position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Master's degree

·         Excellent Experience in program development and budget monitoring

Salary

Hiring salary range is $72,821 - $83,744.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions.  Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.  Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.  The information outlined below will provide the Office of Human Resources everything needed to determine an accurate starting salary.
