Bi-Lingual (Spanish/English)

Job Description:  

Under direct supervision, works and communicates with the general public, internal customers and/or external customers to provide information and services targeted to meet customer expectations. 

All District 4 Public Health, County BOH employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.

Job Responsibilities

  • Must be bilingual
  • Interpret accurately and completely between healthcare providers and patients, ensuring clear communication.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards while interpreting sensitive medical information.
  • Facilitate understanding between healthcare providers and patients by interpreting medical terminology and instructions.
  • Assist with accurately completing intake forms and medical history documentation in both languages.
  • Provide cultural mediation when necessary to bridge communication gaps and ensure cultural competence in care delivery.
  • Serve as a patient advocate by ensuring patients' concerns and questions are effectively communicated to healthcare providers.
  • Help patients navigate the healthcare system by providing information on services, procedures, and follow-up care.
  • Stay updated on medical terminology and best practices in interpretation to maintain high-quality services.
  • Will assist with front desk duties.
  • Provide quality customer service to all customers.
  • Make appointments; follows up with missed appointments by calling client to reschedule.
  • Follow communication “scripts” when scheduling the appropriate appointment. 
  • Identify customers’ needs, clarify information, provide solutions, refer programs/resources. 
  • Handle all client inquiries.
  • Enter new client information into the system.
  • Update existing client information. 
  • Cash handling – collects fees daily and reconcile funds collected to a daily report.
  • Able to adapt to changing policy and procedures.
  • Must abide by strict confidentiality requirements and all HIPPA guidelines. 
  • Must be an active listener with strong phone and verbal communication skills.
  • Position requires employee to be detailed oriented; must be able to work efficiently and independently.        
  • Self-starter. Fast paced work environment.  Ability to multi-task, set priorities and manage time effectively.
  • Candidate must be organized.

Minimum Qualifications

Customer Service Representative 1: 
High school diploma or GED AND six months of related experience handling customers’ questions, complaints and/or providing information.


NOTE: Must be bi-lingual (Spanish/English)

Note:  Candidates with qualifying Public Health experience will be brought in at the position level corresponding with their years of service.

Additional Information

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Public Health experience. 
  • Computer experience. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data entry, etc.)  
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service and oral communication skills, to effectively interact with all levels of departmental personnel and outside customers.  
  • Work requires ability to manage multiple duties simultaneously.
