Job Summary

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky seeks candidates for the position of Chief of the Division of Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplantation. The Division is poised to achieve regional and national recognition in clinical care delivery and medical education with opportunity to build a robust research program focused on the care of medically complex patients. POSITION RESPONSIBILITES


Patient Care/Clinical Service: Primary clinical responsibility is to supervise the providing of outstanding care to patients with hematologic malignancies and other hematologic disorders and over-see the bone marrow transplantation and cellular based therapy programs. The primary inpatient service is the Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Service, and will need to oversee the Hematology Inpatient Consult Service, all in our state-of-the-art inpatient facilities. The Division Chief will be expected to develop and implement initiatives to address new developments and challenges in these programs.


Research: Position is an exciting opportunity to engage in clinical, translational, and basic science research across Univ Ky and Markey with an emphasis on immune based therapeutic research. Also expected to conduct clinical trials both in our Precision Medicine Center as part of our early therapeutics group and in our Clinical Trials Office to provide a coalesced and well-balanced clinical trial portfolio for hematologic malignancies. By serving the Division Chief, the appointee will contribute to overall strategic planning for the Cancer Center and represent the perspective and needs of the clinical trials infrastructure.


Education: Expectation includes teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows, with emphasis on mentoring of junior faculty for scholarly activity. There is also an expectation to work with other training programs directors to provide outreach and educational opportunities in Hematology and BMT to local/regional care teams as Markey has a total catchment population of nearly five million people and is the only NCI designated center in Kentucky.


Administration: Serve as the division chief in the Division of Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplantation being responsible for all facets of the division including patient care, education, research, and its administration.
