Associate Clinical Professor

Position Summary
The Rosenberg School of Optometry invites full-time, non-tenure track, faculty candidates for Associate Clinical Professor. The Associate Clinical Professor is expected to conduct classroom and clinical laboratory teaching in optometry theory and the clinical examination course series, consistent with the department's needs. This position may have responsibilities in the areas of ocular disease, pediatrics, and/or low vision. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities.

Essential Functions
  • Perform clinical duties in RSO Eye Care Clinics.
  • Participate in curriculum development and advancement of the respective program.
  • Prepare course outlines based on approved departmental syllabi.
  • Prepare and deliver consistent, interactive course lectures that align with curriculum goals.
  • Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met.
  • Prepare timely and meaningful exams, projects, and assessments for assigned courses.
  • Advise and mentor students; provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours.
  • Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook and Clinical policies and processes including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
  • Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Perform regular scholarly research and publication.
  • Provide service to the respective department, college, university, community, and profession.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education
OD from an accredited School or College of Optometry.



Required Work Experience
  • At least five (5) years of experience as an OD.
  • Prior teaching experience in an academic setting.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced academic degree.
  • Prior experience in residency training.


Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Licensure to practice full-scope Optometry in Texas; if a license is not possessed, the selected candidate must obtain an optometry license for the state of Texas by the date of assignment.

Work Hours
Based on the course assignment.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to actively engage in events for extended periods.
  • Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage faculty, staff, and potential/current students, as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
